Whenever a post is shared from Haiilo to social media, UTM codes/tags will be automatically added to the original source URL. The information in these codes will tell you exactly which post and user has driven traffic to your page. This helps you analyze your social selling ROI on services such as Google Analytics, HubSpot, Salesforce, etc.
To make sure that UTM tags are automatically added to your shared posts, go to the Settings tab in the menu bar and then choose Employee Advocacy from the left-side list. Then check the box for 'Automatically generate UTM tags for external shares'.
If the box is unchecked, Haiilo will not automatically append any UTM tags to your shared post. This also means that you can manually customize and append UTM tags to each individual post.
Next, let’s take a look at how UTM tags are added and displayed on a link and what the UTM tags mean. Take this link as an example:
http://blog.haiilo.com/cool-content?utm_campaign=543390d035015b124c000006&utm_content=56ea70bc73a6a35d28019843&utm_medium=smarpshare&utm_source=linkedin
Haiilo's UTM naming convention is as below:
- <utm_campaign> This will contain the unique ID of the user who shared the post from Haiilo.
- <utm_content> This will contain the unique ID of the post that was shared from Haiilo.
- <utm_medium> SmarpShare, which indicates that the visit can be attributed to your users sharing from Haiilo.
- <utm_source> The social media network where the link was shared.
Since this example link has UTM tags, you could analyze traffic coming from this link in your preferred analytics tool.
Please note that Haiilo cannot add UTM tags to shortened links (e.g., bit.ly) due to their structure. Haiilo adds UTM tags to the links used in the post and this means that our UTMs will be added to the bit.ly link. When this link then changes to the full link that is "behind" the shortened link, the UTMs are lost. Therefore, creating content in Haiilo with these links is not recommended if you want to use UTM tags for reporting.
